Thirumagai Alwar

Kalayaami kalidhvamsam kavim lokadivaakaram
yasya gobhihi prakaashaabhiraavidyam nihatantamaha

Meaning:
I pray(meditate) to Kaliyan(The destroyer of Kali-Sri Thirumangai Alwar), the great poet(Naalukavi perumaal) who is like the sun in this world, whose knowledge destroys all ignorance similar to the light which kills all the darkness.

Vaazhi Parakaalan Vaazhi Kalikandri
Vaazhi Kuraiyalur Vaazhvendan-Vaazhiyaro
Maayonai Vaalvaliyaal Manthirangkol Mangaiyarkon
Thuyon Sudarmaanavel

Meaning:
Long live Parakaalan(The killer of enemies)! Long live Kalikandri(The destroyer of Kali)! Long live the king of ThiruKuraiyalur! Long live Thirumangai Alwar, who obtained the Thirumantra Upadesam from Sriman Narayana at the point of his sword and Long live his admirable Vel(a kind of spear) which is lustrous as light.

Thirumagai alwar was the 12th and the last among the Alwars(seers who propagated bhakthi among the minds of people). Thirumangai Alwar was born 398 years after the birth of Kali Yuga(presently 5107 years have passed, so Alwar was born in 2714 B.C.). However archeologists are disputed about this fact. Due to the references used in their works relateing to the rulers and languages that existed then, they date the existence of Alwars from 500 A.D. to 1000 A.D.(Even though there are evident information about the age of Alwars in works like Guruparampara Prabhavam).
